Comparisons

Comparisons

My Question for God

How can God help me resist the need to compare myself to others?

A Moment with God

Oh, that my actions would consistently reflect your decrees! Then I will not be ashamed when I compare my life with your commands.

Psalm 119:5-6

Why do you condemn another believer? Why do you look down on another believer? Remember, we will all stand before the judgment seat of God. . . . Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God.

Romans 14:10, 12

These other men . . . are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!

2 Corinthians 10:12

Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. For we are each responsible for our own conduct.

Galatians 6:4-5

How do I measure up?” is a question most of us grapple with. Satan will try to convince you that your worth is based on how you measure up in comparison with others in appearance, possessions, accomplishments, or social status. This will usually leave you feeling either inadequate and envious or full of pride. A better method of determining your worth is comparing yourself with God’s standards. Measured against his holiness, everyone falls short and is humbled; but in God’s eyes, every person is valued and loved. Maintaining a balance between humility over your sin and exulting in God’s lavish grace is a healthy way to live. God doesn’t compare you with others, so neither should you. Enjoy his grace, which has no comparison, and bask in the gracious ways that God shows his love to you.

Divine Promise

Yes, everything else is worthless when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ.

Philippians 3:8
