How do I find meaning in my work?

Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before. Then people who are not Christians will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.

Work is part of God’s plan for our lives, so our work matters to God. Those who work diligently experience many benefits in their own lives and are able to pass them on to others. At its best, work honors God and brings meaning and joy to your life. In your work you should model characteristics of God’s work, such as excellence, concern for the well-being of others, purpose, beauty, and service. When you have the perspective that you are actually working for God, you can focus less on the task itself and more on your motives—to help people know God. The excitement and interest that come from having this perspective are not primarily from your work but from the One for whom you work. God promises two basic rewards for faithful work, regardless of the job: You are a more credible witness to unbelievers, and your needs are met without having to depend on others financially. Whatever your job, there is immense dignity in all honest human labor because your work is an opportunity to serve God and others. Believe that God has placed you in your position for a reason, and then do your work well until he opens a door of opportunity for you to move on.

DIVINE PROMISE

Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people. Remember that the Lord will give you an inheritance as your reward, and that the Master you are serving is Christ. Colossians 3:23-24
