Guarding Your Heart

Guarding Your Heart

MY QUESTIONS for GOD

What does it mean to guard my heart? Why is it important?

A MOMENT with GOD

Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.

Proverbs 4:23

I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

Matthew 5:28

It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, . . . lustful desires.

Mark 7:20-22

Your eye is a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is good, your whole body is filled with light.

Luke 11:34

Ultimately your actions come from your heart. What you do shows the condition of your heart. Left unchecked, wrong desires and thoughts will eventually result in wrong actions. For example, if you allow yourself to think about having sex with someone who is not your spouse, your heart will begin to convince you that it’s okay. The Bible says that “the human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9). In other words, don’t trust your emotions to tell you the difference between right and wrong. Trust God’s Word; it comes from God’s heart, which is good and perfect.

DIVINE PROMISE

Pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7
