How do convictions strengthen my faith?

A MOMENT with GOD

Daniel was determined not to defile himself by eating the food and wine given to them by the king. He asked the chief of staff for permission not to eat these unacceptable foods.

Daniel 1:8

This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ. Then we will no longer be immature like children. We won’t be tossed and blown about by every wind of new teaching. We will not be influenced when people try to trick us with lies so clever they sound like the truth. Instead, we will speak the truth in love, growing in every way more and more like Christ, who is the head of his body, the church.

Ephesians 4:13-15

Having convictions means more than just having beliefs; it means being committed to your beliefs. What you think, say, and do shows the strength of your convictions. For example, when you believe Jesus Christ is who he claims to be, then out of this belief should come the conviction to live according to his teachings. Convictions prepare you to effectively live a life of faith and to defend your faith when necessary. Conviction can also refer to the work of the Holy Spirit in your heart, when he tells you what is right and wrong. Without the Holy Spirit convicting your heart, you would be unprepared to face temptation and might easily give in when confronted by someone with stronger convictions. Convictions hold you steady on the path of life and help you faithfully live out your belief in God in practical ways. Keep your convictions firm, and your life as a Christian will be full of divine moments.

DIVINE PROMISE

Let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves. The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires.

Galatians 5:16-17
