Is it okay to try to be successful in this life?

The Lord was with Joseph, so he succeeded in everything he did as he served in the home of his Egyptian master . . . giving him success in everything he did.

Genesis 39:2-3

The Lord blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. For now he had 14,000 sheep, 6,000 camels, 1,000 teams of oxen, and 1,000 female donkeys.

Job 42:12

Throughout the Scriptures, God provides material blessings for his people. While he does sometimes allow this for some people, God also urges them never to forget the One who gave it to them. It is always a bad investment to pursue worldly success but sacrifice spiritual prosperity in the process.

The Lord said to Samuel, “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

1 Samuel 16:7

God’s standards often differ greatly from our own. For a Christian, success is measured by faithfulness and fruitfulness, not revenue and profits. It is a spiritual assessment, not a numerical one. Too often success is measured in terms of appearances, finances, or other external qualities, but the Lord looks at your heart. God measures success not by prestige, possessions, or power, but by weighing your motives, your actions, and your devotion to him.
