Emptiness

MY QUESTION for GOD

I’m so busy doing things, but I still feel empty. Where does this emptiness come from?

A MOMENT with GOD

I will wound you! I will bring you to ruin for all your sins. You will eat but never have enough. Your hunger pangs and emptiness will remain. And though you try to save your money, it will come to nothing in the end.

Micah 6:13-14

One of sin’s great deceptions is that more will be enough, but it never is. If you always think you need just a little more to satisfy you, then you will never be satisfied.

Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.

Matthew 6:21

Feelings of emptiness can come when your heart is not filled up enough with God. Often this happens when something else becomes more important to you than God. God created you to have a relationship with him. When you push the Creator into a corner of your heart or push him out entirely, you leave a big hole. A heart without God is an empty heart.

We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it.

Psalm 39:6

Feelings of emptiness can come when you confuse accomplishment with purpose. You may do a lot and seem to accomplish much; but if there is no eternal purpose behind your work, after a while it all feels empty and meaningless.

If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.

1 Corinthians 13:3

Feelings of emptiness can come from living without loving. Without love, we can gain nothing from all our efforts.

Let them no longer fool themselves by trusting in empty riches, for emptiness will be their only reward.

Job 15:31

Feelings of emptiness can come when your main focus is accumulating wealth. Eventually you realize that it doesn’t really satisfy as you thought it would, and you can’t take it with you when you die.

Unless the Lord builds a house, the work of the builders is wasted. Unless the Lord protects a city, guarding it with sentries will do no good. It is useless for you to work so hard from early morning until late at night, anxiously working for food to eat; for God gives rest to his loved ones.

Psalm 127:1-2

Feelings of emptiness can come when you seek satisfaction only in your work. Work can satisfy and fulfill you for a time, but even rewarding work cannot ultimately satisfy. One day you will no longer work, and then what will satisfy? Retirement? When you are too old to enjoy that, then what will satisfy?

So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.

1 Corinthians 15:58

Feelings of emptiness fade away when you find meaning and purpose in life and when God uses you to accomplish the purpose for which he created you.
