Compassion

Compassion

MY QUESTION for GOD

Should a leader have compassion?

A MOMENT with GOD

The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love.

Psalm 103:8

Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.

Ephesians 4:32

Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out and touched him. “I am willing,” he said. “Be healed!”

Mark 1:41

You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.

Luke 6:36

When we think of someone who has compassion, we think of a person with a heart. A leader without compassion is someone to be feared—apathetic, unmerciful, callous, heartless. Compassion is both an emotion (being moved with pity for someone) and an action (acting kindly to someone in need). Jesus felt great compassion for the crowds of people who followed him, desperately searching for meaning and healing. Jesus showed them compassion by telling them the Good News about God. Compassion is a tearing of the heart, a true caring, a quality deeply seated in your emotions that inspires you respond to another person in need. Compassion can be a litmus test of your commitment and desire to love others as Christ loves you. It is a mark of strong leadership, because those you lead have great needs. To be Christlike is to share in Christ’s compassionate feelings and actions in response to the needs of others, particularly those who would suffer greater hardship without your help. If you are not moved by the needs and hurts of the people around you, you may develop a heart of stone, which could eventually become too hard to respond to others or even God. A caring and compassionate leader is a respected leader.
