Why do I sometimes get so angry?

A MOMENT with GOD

The Lord accepted Abel and his gift, but he did not accept Cain and his gift. This made Cain very angry, and he looked dejected.

Genesis 4:4-5

“Didn’t I tell you?” the king of Israel exclaimed to Jehoshaphat. “He never prophesies anything but trouble for me. . . . Put this man in prison, and feed him nothing but bread and water.”

You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires. So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.

James 1:19-21

Anger is often a reaction to your pride being hurt. When you are confronted, rejected, ignored, or don’t get your own way, anger is a defense mechanism to protect your ego. It is common to feel angry when you have been confronted about your own sinful actions because it wounds your pride. Train yourself to examine your heart whenever you become angry. Ask yourself, who is really offended in this situation? Is this about God’s honor or my own pride? Allow God’s Word to help you overcome your anger and grow in his will.
