Deeper Life #318

And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

—2 Kings 6:17

OPENED SIGHT” IS A PROMINENT result of spiritual regeneration. When the disciples were born again, they got their eyes opened to who they were, not only who the Lord was.

The Holy Spirit can anoint our spiritual eyes with salve. By His quickening, He performs a kind of surgical operation, which is necessary before we can see in any light other than that of our prejudices.

This is not the sanctified life we are talking about; this is the spiritually regenerated life. Examine yourself to see whether you have ever received this quickening of the Holy Spirit of God.

Prayer Thought: Open the blinded eyes of the human spirit, O Lord, so that we can see You in all Your beauty.
