Deeper Life #260

Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.

—Luke 10:2

BEWARE OF PEOPLE WHO TELL you how to fish! I know a good many people who have tried to learn how to fish from books; but they never did learn. The only way to learn how to fish is to fish!

An old captain, whom I know very well, has been a fisherman all his days. He told me about a man who published a book on how to catch fish. The captain took him out in his boat; but, by the time he got four miles out to sea, the captain saw him looking like a corpse. They stayed out for hours, and he didn’t have enough strength to put his line over the side of the boat. He was too seasick. So much for the instructor of how to catch fish!

Beware of any book that tells you how to catch men for Christ. Go to Calvary and let God deal with you until you understand the meaning of the tremendous cost to Jesus Christ, and then begin fishing for souls.

God grant that we may get out from under the instructors of how to catch fish and get into the fishing business!

Prayer Thought: Grant me, O Lord, the wisdom to be a true fisherman of souls!
