Deeper Life #253
Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.
—Proverbs 20:22
IF YOU CAN SHOW SOMEONE how to be delivered from the torture of sin, or healed of a pain-stricken body, or loosened from a terrible past, then you have that person as your friend. Yet the “prince of this world” would convince us that we can have these benefits of the gospel without having to surrender ourselves to the Lord Jesus.
Watch how people will take all His blessings, but will not relate rightly to Him. Our challenge is to present them with Christ apart from what Christ can do.
Perhaps you have lately been brought face to face with someone who was experiencing much anxiety, and you said, “This person is under conviction of sin.” But you learned that was not so. You tried every scriptural teaching you knew, applied in big and little measure, and yet had no result. You tried to preach temperament, explaining that the person felt anxious by nature. You tried to advocate this and that and the other spiritual discipline. Still there have been no results. You have been humiliated to the dust before God.
You have been trying to find out what is wrong. And that is where you are mistaken. God will never show you what is wrong with someone else; that is not your business. He wants you to bring the case to Him.
God grant that you may get so centered in Him that He can use you in that wonderful way!
Prayer Thought: Let me never forget the primary importance of bringing others to You, Lord.
