All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.

—2 Timothy 3:16

EVERY CRITICISM THAT IS BROUGHT against the Bible has been brought against our Lord Jesus Christ. The two cannot be parted.

“The truth” is our Lord Himself. “The whole truth” is the inspired Scripture, interpreting our Lord to us. And “nothing but the truth” is the gracious Holy Spirit, efficaciously regenerating and identifying us with our Lord in heaven. We cannot be parted from Him, either.

Ye wish, I know, we could as one unite,

And have a Church as ample as the sky,

Whence every Church might draw its whole of light,

And not divide—but only multiply.

Good is your purpose! but, ye English youth,

Mistake ye not the symbol for the truth?

Prayer Thought: Instruct me, Holy Spirit, in the way of righteousness as I read and study the Scriptures.
