Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

—John 8:32

GOD CALLS EVERY CHRISTIAN TO be made part and parcel of the nature of our Lord Jesus Christ, being born of the Spirit and baptized into the mystical body of that new humanity, which are “in Christ.” This stands in contrast to the tragic condition of many Christians, who see the truth with the mind, while life and character lag woefully behind.

Who among us has not met with clearness—almost dictatorial clearness—wrong attitudes and actions in some Christians? This dichotomy was clearly manifested in the lives of Jesus’ disciples in the days of His flesh, when they forbade others’ doing good deeds because they did not follow Jesus with them. They wanted to call fire down from heaven to consume the inhabitants of some Samaritan villages that had a hostile attitude to Jesus because of racial prejudice.

Are you consistent in your attitudes and actions? If not, being “in the truth” can set you free from your old ways!

Prayer Thought: Free me from bondage to prejudice and fear.
