Woe to them that are at ease in Zion.
—Amos 6:1
TIMOTHY WAS A FEEBLE YOUNG man, physically; Paul was continually telling him how to take care of his body. Yet, the apostle told Timothy to preach the Word “in season and out.” What did he mean? To take every opportunity? No, I believe Paul meant he should preach in season or out of season, regarding himself. He seemed to say, “Never let your bodily condition hinder you, but preach in season or out of season.”
If you do not believe that is the correct reading, read it again. The apostle Paul is aiming his word at laziness.
Physical laziness and spiritual sloth are all too common among Christians. May God rouse you up to get you reading! And praying! And witnessing!
Prayer Thought: Awake us, O God, and strengthen us to be alert and active in Your kingdom.
SUGGESTED READING: 2 Timothy 4:1–5
