Deeper Life #188

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

—2 Timothy 2:15

WHEN JESUS CHRIST SAID, “THOU shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart,” He did not stop there. He said, “And with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength” (Mark 12:30). Oh, I wish I could kindle you to learn how some folks have lifted themselves out of the very gutter of ignominy and ignorance by sheer grind, in the secular callings of life! Would to God we had the same stick-to-it energy in God’s line!

Many a lad in Scotland has worked hard, day and night, to attain a scholarship in secular callings. Are we to be less disciplined in God’s calling?

Prayer Thought: Discipline my mind and body, Lord, so I can effectively serve You and the church.
