Deeper Life #163

Deeper Life #163

And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin.

—Matthew 6:28

JESUS SAID, “CONSIDER THE LILY.” It obeys the laws of its life in the circumstances where it is placed. As a Christian, consider your hidden life with God. Pay attention to the source of your life—God! Realize that He will care for your provision.

The most hard-working creature of our world is a bird, yet it does not toil to stick feathers to itself. It obeys the law of its life and becomes what it is. The same is true for Christians.

You cannot enjoy life by heeding outside pressures to change. Imagine what would happen if a lily did what some of us try to do. We say, “Oh, I must give up this; I must go here and there.” Imagine a lily’s hauling itself out of a pot and saying, “Well, I don’t think I smell nice enough. I don’t think I look exactly right. I must change myself!” The lily’s duty is to obey the law of its life where it is placed by the gardener.

Watch your life, dear Christian friend, and allow God to be the source of your life. Then you will grow in His grace.

Prayer Thought: Thank You, Lord, for providing all the necessities of my life.
