Deeper Life #109

I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

Luke 18:8

FROM GENESIS TO THE BOOK of Revelation, the Bible has spoken of a coming One—not a prophet, but One of whom all the prophets spoke.

Prophecies concerning Jesus were clear and obscure before He came to earth. Likewise, after He came the first time, prophecies concerning His coming again in the skies have been clear and obscure. Clearness and obscurity are the very characteristics of divine prophecy. To the pure in heart, the prophecies are clear, because the pure in heart know the way that passes knowledge. But to the lost, the prophecies are obscure.

Obscurity is common to human intelligence, because human intelligence can only perceive what has taken place in its own experience, not that which makes it what it is.

Those with a pure heart know that Jesus Christ is coming again in rapturous glory. They are looking for His coming. But those who piece together the prophecies concerning Him, by mere human intelligence and logic, will suffer from delusion and a final eclipse of faith.

Prayer Thought: Keep me ready for Your coming, Lord, and enable me to heartily work for You until Your coming.
