Where To Find Wisdom

If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

James 1:5

Forbes magazine is one of the longest running and most respected business publications in the world. Its pages profile the wealthiest, most innovative, and most successful business leaders in the world. Yet in the midst of all its worldly wisdom, the magazine includes an acknowledgment of the true source of wisdom. The headline of the editorial page features a quote from Proverbs 4:7: “With all thy getting get understanding” (KJV).

The complete admonition from Solomon says, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.” Why is this a good message for business leaders—and for every person? Because it’s so easy to get caught up in getting what this world has to offer: power, position, and prestige. But wisdom and understanding do not flow from these things; they flow only from God. It’s easy for the average Christian to think that powerful people need that lesson. But all of us are subject to the same temptation: to value man’s wisdom over God’s.

Remember, with all your getting, make sure you get—and keep—true wisdom from God.
