Warning: God At Work!
Warning: God At Work!
For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
Philippians 2:13
Before the apostle Paul encountered Christ on the Damascus road, his entire life had been dedicated to the study of the Old Testament. When he became a follower of Christ, it is likely he first thought all his years of meticulous study as a Pharisee were wasted. Yet God had providentially prepared Paul to show how Christ was the fulfillment of the Old Testament scriptures he knew so well.
It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that God doesn’t begin working in our lives until the day we come to know Christ. But Scripture says He “foreknew” us, meaning He chose us and prepared us long before we ever met Him (Romans 8:29–30). David said that God wrote out all the days of his life before they ever came to pass (Psalm 139:16), and we can assume He has done the same for us.
God is at work in our lives in ways we know nothing about. When the road gets bumpy and the fog rolls in, don’t project your confusion onto God. Even when you can’t see His hand at work, He is always active in you to bring about His good pleasure.
Faith changes the question “Is God at work?” into a declarative statement of faith: “God is at work!”
