Trusting God For Work
Trusting God For Work
And let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us, And establish the work of our hands for us; Yes, establish the work of our hands.
Psalm 90:17
One story goes that a company’s employees found this note on the office bulletin board: “It has come to management’s attention that workers dying on the job are failing to fall down. This practice must stop, as it makes it impossible to distinguish the dead employees from those still working. Any employee found dead in an upright position will be immediately dropped from the payroll.”
Many Christians have to be reminded that work is a sacred calling. The sacred or secular mentality infects many: anything related to “the spiritual life” is sacred, while work is secular. Nothing could be more unbiblical! Man was created for a lifetime of service to God, making all of life a sacred endeavor. While work became more difficult after sin entered the world, it did not change the fundamental value of work. It is meaningful and required of all who bear God’s image. Whether you work for money or as a volunteer, in the home or the community, work is a gift and calling from God.
Do you know a person who is discouraged with his or her work? Your encouragement may help that person’s toil become work that reflects the beauty of the Lord.
