The Right Look

The Right Look

As water reflects a face, So a man’s heart reflects the man.

Proverbs 27:19 NIV

You can tell a lot about a man by the way he dresses. Consider the family portrait. Each family member spends hours in front of the mirror trying to look just right. Then, in front of the camera, they are all on their best behavior with their largest smiles across their faces.

What if someone followed you around every day with a camera? It would make an impact, but it is up to you what kind of impact. Charles Spurgeon once said, “A man’s life is always more forcible than his speech. When men take stock of him, they reckon his deeds as dollars and his words as pennies. If his life and doctrine disagree, the mass of onlookers accept his practice and reject his preaching.”

Does your appearance reflect the transformation that Christ has done in your heart? First Peter 3:3–4 says, “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment. . . . Instead, it should be that of your inner self . . . which is of great worth in God’s sight” (NIV).

Hold your head up high, and make the spiritual family portrait more beautiful from the inside out.
