The Great Divide

Between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.

Luke 16:26

The gulf between Hades and Paradise is fixed—immovable. The gulf is not going to be taken away. What you do in this life fixes forever where you will spend eternity. If you reject Jesus Christ in this life, you will remain in hell forever. There is no crossing back, no second chance, no coming back and starting over.

Thankfully, the decision you make for Jesus Christ in this life fixes your eternal salvation forever as well. The point is that the gulf, the divide between heaven and hell, is a fixed divide. Therefore, whatever decision you make in this life—for or against Jesus Christ—is a decision that you will live with for eternity. No one knows what the next minute, hour, day, or year will bring. The decision you die with is the decision you will live with forever.
