The Choice Is Yours

Therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.

Deuteronomy 30:19

When most people think of America, they think of democracy—and they’re partly correct. In its purest form, a democracy means “the majority rules.” America’s Founding Fathers, knowing that the majority is not always right, wisely established America’s government as a republic so that governing officials, elected by the people, serve as a buffer between pure “majority rule” and policy.

Besides government, there is another realm in which the majority is not always right: spiritual discernment. Jesus made it clear that life consists of two roads leading to two gates: a wide road leading to a broad gate that leads to destruction, and a difficult road leading to a narrow gate that leads to life (Matthew 7:13–14). The majority travels on the wide road leading to destruction, and the minority passes through the narrow gate leading to life.

People are like sheep—they tend to move blindly in herds without a lot of choice regarding danger. Which road are you on? Which gate have you chosen? Which destiny is yours?

The larger the crowd, the greater the cause for caution—especially when it comes to eternal choices.
