Sharing God’s Word

Those who fear You will be glad when they see me, Because I have hoped in Your word.

Psalm 119:74

In 1631, an English Bible printer made a serious error: he forgot to include the “not” in one of the Ten Commandments. His version of Exodus 20:14 read, “Thou shalt commit adultery.” His edition of the Bible became known as “The Wicked Bible.” He was fined £300, and all the copies of his Bible were destroyed.

The moral of the story? It’s wonderful to share the Bible with others, but make sure you share it accurately! Jesus compared the Word of God with seeds sown in the soil. The condition of the soil, the depth of the soil, and environmental factors will determine whether seeds spring up and ultimately bear fruit (Matthew 13:3–23). And the same is true of the Word of God. Many factors are beyond our control, but what we can control is whether the Word of God is shared with others.

Christians as well as non-Christians need the Word, so it is not just a matter of evangelism. It is a matter of being a person who speaks the Word and wisdom of God to others to address the critical needs in the world today.

When people with receptive hearts discover that your words are God’s words, not the words of man, they will rejoice when they see you.
