No Exceptions

No Exceptions

Therefore show these men the proof of your love and the reason for our pride in you, so that the churches can see it.

2 Corinthians 8:24 NIV

One evening Pastor Bill Hybels stopped by his church to encourage those rehearsing for the spring musical. He didn’t intend to stay long, so he parked next to the entrance.

The next morning he received this note: “A small thing, but last night you parked in the ‘No Parking’ area. One of my crew (who did not recognize you) said, ‘There’s another jerk in the “No Parking” area!’ We try hard not to allow people—even workers—to park anywhere other than the parking lots. I would appreciate your cooperation too. Signed, a member of maintenance.”

What an example from a leader! No one is exempt from church rules or God’s rules. That night Bill realized the employee didn’t want him to be labeled “I’m an exception.” Exemplary conduct means encouraging others to imitate us, even in small matters. Whether the leader of a church or a member of the clean-up crew, we are all to be held accountable so that we are an example of God’s love.

Be aware throughout the day of the example God gave us through His Son, Jesus. And be aware of your actions and how they affect others. Be an example God would be proud of.
