Just Try It

Just Try It

And try Me now in this.

Malachi 3:10

Before his death, Pastor Harvey Hill of Winter Haven, Florida, wrote out his life’s story. He said that when he and his wife, Sylvia, were married, they didn’t have a penny. It was during the Depression, and not many people had a car. They walked to church, to work, and to visit with friends; and they lived hand to mouth. One day the pastor of their church asked them if they tithed—that is, if they were in the habit of giving at least 10 percent of their income to the Lord.

“No,” said Harvey. “We can’t afford it.”

“Just try it,” the pastor replied, “and see if God doesn’t bless you.”

Struck by the challenge, Harvey and Sylvia agreed to try. From that day until their deaths within a few weeks of each other seventy years later, they never failed to bring God their tithes and offerings. And He never failed to meet their needs.

Malachi 3:10 says, “ ‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.’ ”

Are you tithing? You should just try it, and see if God doesn’t bless you.
