Judge Your Own Sin

For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.

1 Corinthians 11:31

When I was a boy, I worked at a place where I could get the autograph of some pretty famous Christians, and they would always put a favorite Scripture reference under their name. One time a man signed his name and wrote underneath it, “1 Corinthians 11:31.” I didn’t know that verse, so that night I found it and read the words, “For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.” If we take note of the sin in our lives and take the initiative to put it behind us, then the Bible says we won’t be judged for that sin. But then the converse thought occurred to me: if there is unconfessed sin our lives, and we refuse to deal with it, God will have to judge that sin.

None of us can make it through this life without sinning. The road of life is rough, and there are ruts and potholes in which we can fall. But the Bible tells us how to deal with the sin in life: repent and confess it. If we do, God will bless. If we don’t, God will judge. The choice is ours.
