God Is With Us

Lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.

Matthew 28:20

Christ is the only Savior of the world. But the Bible tells stories of leaders who, with God’s help, “saved” their people. Moses led his people out of Egypt, where they were miserable and enslaved. But after he brought the Ten Commandments down from the mountain where God had given them to him, he saw his people sinning. He had spent days there with God only to return to find the Israelites had not listened to him or to God. As a savior he was alone, and it was his sole duty to bring his people back to God. With God’s help Moses was a savior, and he, too, felt lonely.

Joseph saved the Hebrew people from famine by giving them food that Egypt had stored. Joseph had spent many years alone because his brothers sold him into slavery, and Joseph was also jailed for an offense of which he was not guilty. Joseph, too, had saved the Israelites by following God’s orders. But his path was not an easy one; it was often a lonely one.

Christ bore His burden alone on the cross so that He could obtain victory over death for us. Since Christ bore all the agony, loneliness, and sin of the world, we do not have to fear God’s forsaking us. God will always be with us, even unto the end of the age.
