Faith Grows
Faith Grows
We . . . thank God always for you . . . because your faith grows exceedingly.
2 Thessalonians 1:3
If faith dispels worry, anxiety, fear, and depression, then why am I worried, anxious, fearful, and depressed?” asked Jamie. “Why do I react so suddenly to life’s punches? Why can’t I trust God more?”
If you’ve ever asked such questions, you’re in good company. Take the disciples, for example. They trusted Christ enough to leave their homes and livelihoods, to follow Him despite persecution and opposition. Yet when they faltered during the storm, He bemoaned their “little faith” (Matthew 8:26).
Fast-forward a few years. Those same disciples were braving prison, beatings, and death to take the gospel of the kingdom to the ends of the earth. Their faith had grown strong.
The simple fact is that faith is a growing thing. Paul said, “Faith grows” (2 Thessalonians 1:3). It grows as we find and claim specific promises during times of need. It grows as we ask God to increase our faith and as we advance in our understanding of the trustworthiness of our Lord.
Remember, it’s not great faith you need—but faith in a great God.
