Daily Power #50
Daily Power #50
Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other. (Rom. 12:10 NLT)
Imagine that someone you care about is hurting because they just received bad news. Maybe it was unexpected test results from the doctor or news that their position has been eliminated at the office. Maybe they just found out their child has a serious medical condition or their spouse has betrayed them. How would you show them you love them?
Sure, you could send them a text: “Hey, just thinking about you” or “Praying for you! Let me know if I can help.” But surely, as a follower of Jesus, you can do better than this. What if you used that device you text with to call your friend and have a real-live conversation? Or maybe you decide to get really crazy and take it to the next level—you go see them face to face.
You could ask them a few questions, and then just listen to them. If it seems appropriate, maybe put your hand on their shoulder. Maybe even hold hands across the table and pray with them. And if they happen to start crying, it’s okay. Just wrap your arm around their shoulders. Or, if you’re a guy, punch them in the arm to help cheer them up. Just let them know that you’re right there in it with them.
Presence is powerful.
It reminds us that God is with us. And it reminds others that God is with them. Today remind someone of how much you, as well as God, love them—especially in light of whatever challenge they’re facing.

Jesus, as I try to love others as you did, empower me to be present in the midst of someone else’s pain. Allow me to comfort them with your undeniable love and peace.
