Daily Power #48

“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” (Rev. 3:20)

Some friends of mine have what we call “refrigerator privileges.” When we visit each other, we have the right to get up, wander to the kitchen, open the fridge, and grab something to drink or even a snack. We treat each other like family and enjoy that familiar sense of being “at home” with one another.

Jesus wants to have this same kind of intimate fellowship with us, much like two old friends sitting around the kitchen and enjoying an impromptu meal. He certainly seemed to enjoy breaking bread with a diverse company of people. From feeding the five thousand to the Last Supper, Jesus knew that eating together creates a shared experience and reminds us of what we have in common. Even after his resurrection, he prepared breakfast on the beach for his disciples who had been out fishing all night.

When we invite Christ into our lives, we open the door to an intimate relationship with our Savior. He’s not some aloof, distant, detached emperor who rules from afar. No, he enters into our lives with the comfortable, intimate familiarity of sharing a meal with a friend. Our relationship with Jesus is the basis for every friendship we have.

Dear Jesus, thank you for entering my heart and giving me new life. I love you, Lord, and want to follow you in all areas of my life. Help me to love my friends the way you love me.
