Daily Power #342

Give generously to them and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. (Deut. 15:10)

When I look back, I can’t remember a single time when I got all choked up reflecting on a purchase I’d made. I can’t remember ever crying at the checkout when I was about to bag my groceries and walk out of a store. Not even when I was buying donuts!

I also can’t remember anyone else telling me their tremendously moving “getting” story. No one ever said, “I cried for two days after getting a flat-screen TV,” or “I worshiped God with all my heart when I got my first pair of Jordans,” or “I was speechless when I purchased my fifth Coach purse.”

Although I don’t know anyone who was moved beyond measure by getting, I know plenty who were moved deeply by giving. I’ve heard countless stories that go something like this:

“We prayed and prayed and prayed. God led us to sacrifice to give to our building fund at church. We’ve never felt closer to God than when we gave.”

“We just met the girl we have been sponsoring for the past eight years. This may be the most important thing we’ve ever done.”

“We were planning on selling it, but God led us to give it instead. Wow! We need to give more often.”

When you give and impact someone’s life, it’s a feeling you will never forget. And no “getting” story ever compares to the joy of giving.
