Daily Power #319
Daily Power #319
You know that the Lord will reward each one for whatever good they do. (Eph. 6:8)
A few years ago, one of our kids’ pets went missing. Because I wasn’t a cat fan to begin with, I wasn’t nearly as upset as the rest of the family. But I hated seeing my kids so upset and agreed to help them search the neighborhood. Then one of my daughters got the idea to make signs to post and offer a reward. We hung them on every light post and stop sign for miles around our house.
The sad news is that we never found Cutie Pie, and another cat eventually took her place in my children’s affections. But I’ll never forget how amazed the kids were that the reward didn’t work; no one came forward to claim the $100 reward by returning their beloved pet. That whole experience taught my kids that so much of life revolves around making an extra effort in order to claim the benefit.
Fortunately for us, God has already given us his assurance of the greatest reward we could ever imagine: being with him for eternity in heaven. Once we’ve invited Jesus into our hearts, we are washed clean and our sins are forgiven. There’s nothing we can do to earn God’s favor, no works that we could accomplish to make ourselves worthy of him. As believers in Christ, we are joint heirs with him, adopted into God’s family as sons and daughters.
Our inheritance is in place and our reward is secured.
