Daily Power #309
Daily Power #309
God did not call us to be impure, but to live a holy life. (1 Thess. 4:7)
When Amy and I were first married, I was so frugal that I would often buy grocery items that had been marked down because they were close to their sell-by date. Amy never complained and somehow always managed to produce something delicious out of over-ripe apples or that package of chicken wings.
But then one day, I brought home some yogurt that was already beyond its best-by date. Of course, once we opened it, we could tell right away. It had spoiled and was no longer good for us to eat. Even I agreed the only reasonable thing to do was to throw it away.
I suspect some of our lifestyle habits work the same way. They were good when we started them, but eventually they’re no longer in our best interests. As a result, we go through the motions to do something that’s really not helping us grow closer to God.
From my experience, a big part of living a life set apart for God is learning to adapt to change. God asks us to obey him regardless of our circumstances, and he also promises to provide his wisdom and strength to us when we ask him. I’m convinced we often don’t have what we need, not because God isn’t willing to provide it but because we’re still clinging to outdated habits.
Today let go of those expired items to make room for the fresh blessings God wants to give you.
Power Lift
Give me wisdom and discernment, Lord, so that I can eliminate habits, routines, and relationships that are no longer needed. Thank you for providing what I need according to your perfect will and time.
