Daily Power #271

Daily Power #271

If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. (Ps. 139:9–10)

As I shared earlier, every summer our family goes to the lake with our close friends. It’s in a remote area and is one of the most beautiful, serene places I know. And the fact that there’s no Wi-Fi or phone towers nearby only makes it that much better.

I confess: I have a hard time unplugging when I’m on vacation or having family time. I figure one little peek, one quick text, one short email won’t hurt; plus it will save me so much time later when I’m back and trying to catch up. But like popcorn, one text becomes an entire back-and-forth conversation, one email becomes three, and pretty soon, I might as well be working.

I’m working on this. And honestly, the way technology and social media has become a constant, 24/7 presence in our lives, the more I know I need to unplug. I need face-to-face time with my wife and kids, real fellowship with friends. Time alone to pray, think, read God’s Word, and think some more. Time to go on a walk or read a book without glancing at my phone every five seconds.

Even as I’m learning to unplug more often, I’ve become more grateful that God never unplugs from us. He’s always available. He never leaves us. He may seem silent or may not be speaking to us in the way we want or can hear, but we can trust he’s there. God never leaves our side.

Power Lift

Wherever I go or whatever I do, nothing can separate me from you, Lord. Thank you for being there for me all the time.
