Daily Power #264

Daily Power #264

Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.” (Isa. 30:21)

Like most kids, ours often had bad dreams and worried about monsters under the bed. Even when they didn’t get up and rush into our bedroom, our kids would often wake us with their restlessness. Amy especially had that kind of super-powered hearing that new mothers have, the kind that can recognize their baby’s cry from across a crowded nursery or anywhere in their house. It’s funny because it probably took my superpowers longer to develop, but I can remember being up front and preaching at church and hearing one of my kids cry outside the auditorium.

It works the same way with our children’s ability to recognize our voices. Sometimes just a whispered, comforting prayer or lullaby was the only thing needed to overcome a nightmare or heal a scraped knee. In crowded situations, like the mall at Christmas and amusement parks in the summer, our kids learned that they better be able to focus in on their parents’ voices if they wanted to keep up.

As God’s children, we need to hear our Father’s voice and receive reassurance of his love, protection, and guidance. And it also gives me comfort to know that he hears each of our voices, unique and distinct from all his other sons and daughters.

God hears your prayers. Listen for his voice today.

Power Lift

Lord, you hear my prayers and come to my aid. Thank you for listening and responding whenever I cry out to you.
