Daily Power #262
Daily Power #262
“When he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” (John 16:13)
Time used to drive me crazy. There was never enough of it! I’d be doing one thing, mentally thinking ahead to what was next and how to get through it as quickly as possible. And if I was in a meeting and someone was taking too long (according to my internal efficiency clock) to make their point, then I about came unglued.
As I’ve gotten older, however, I’ve remembered something my grandmother used to tell me, “Don’t look ahead too far and wish your life away.” She knew that a lot can happen in the future that we never see coming. We can only focus on what God has given us to do today. We must try to make the most of our time, but ultimately, we’re most contented when we align ourselves with God’s timing.
Most people assume that if they could predict the future, then they would have an easy, carefree life. They could make millions off the stock market, know which winning teams to support, and prepare perfectly for tomorrow’s weather. But I suspect if we really saw the future the way God sees it, we would be terrified and overwhelmed by having too much to handle.
Rest in the security of God’s power and presence. He is sovereign and has the future in control. He gave us his Spirit to help guide us through tough times. Tomorrow holds nothing that God is not already holding.
Power Lift
I trust you, Lord, with my today, tomorrow, next week, next month, and next year. Because you are for me, it doesn’t matter who might be against me.
