Daily Power #237
Daily Power #237
Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. (1 Thess. 5:16–18)
I saw an article recently in which some psychologists studied the relationship between gratitude and joy. Their study was apparently one of many that confirm what the Bible has told us for centuries. When we stop focusing on what we lack and instead concentrate on what we have, then we feel grateful and experience joy. Stopping to count your blessings reminds us that God has given us more than we realize.
Our culture tells us to buy more and spend more if we want to be content. But in this continual consumer mindset, nothing is ever enough. We’re told we should always want more stuff. But it’s not more stuff that gives us joy. It’s realizing and appreciating what we’ve already received: a loving family, our health, food to eat, our home, a sense of humor, and so many other blessings we tend to take for granted.
As you go through your day, pay special attention to all that you’re thankful for: a hot cup of coffee, the kindness of a family member, the support of a friend, a kind word from a stranger. Give God thanks for blessing you so abundantly.

Sometimes I grumble and complain, God, and yet I know I have so many blessings in my life. Forgive me when I forget to recognize them and to thank you for all the many gifts you bless me with each day.
