Daily Power #205

Daily Power #205

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O LORD, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. (Ps. 138:8 ESV)

Because I travel frequently, I get to see most of the major cities in our country. No matter how successful or dynamic a city’s downtown area may be, I almost always see at least a few buildings that have clearly been abandoned. Their glass windows stare back at me like vacant eyes, looking down upon the graffiti and trash continually accumulating around their foundations.

Many of these sites aren’t even that old. I can tell that only a few years ago these monoliths were the pride and joy of some new builder, business owner, or company. For whatever reason, though, they now sit empty and abandoned.

Inner-city office buildings aren’t the only things that people vacate and leave behind. It might be our families, our jobs, our pasts that we’ve tried to move away from, often for good reasons. Nonetheless, those vacancies echo inside us as the emotional scars remain.

The good news is that God not only heals our wounds, but he will never abandon us. He has promised to be with us always. He’s not going to suddenly leave us in the lurch, orphaned and alone. He’s our Father, and he loves us, pursues us, and cares for us.

Power Lift

Thank you, Father, for promising never to abandon me. Your love provides the foundation of security I need today to face anything that’s ahead.
