Daily Power #175

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” (Acts 3:19)

All of us have done things we wish we could undo. Take text messages, for example. Once you click Send, there’s no getting it back, so you have to be really careful what you say. I travel sometimes for work, but Amy and I keep in constant touch by texting. Because we’re married—and only because we’re married (Heb. 13:4)—sometimes we like to throw in a little Song of Solomon love action, if you know what I mean.

One evening, she had texted me about us going for a walk in a vineyard together or something saucy like that, so when I got back to my room at about eleven o’clock, I texted her back how much I love her flock of sheep. Only it was kind of racier than that. Okay, a lot racier.

Unfortunately, just as I hit Send, I noticed that I hadn’t replied to the right conversation. I had two open conversations with Amy: our private one and a group text from earlier in the day. I had just texted a very romantic message to a group of my wife’s friends!

So there I was, in full panic mode, staring at my phone when it rang.

“Oh, hi, babe. I was just thinking about you.”

“Do you realize what you just did?”

“Yes, I do!”

Don’t worry—no one will ever know what was in those texts. We had dinner with each of those couples in nice restaurants, and we paid for their meals to bribe them to secrecy.

You cannot unsend.

You cannot undo past mistakes.

But you can repent.
