Daily Power #161

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Heb. 4:12)

If we are going to follow Christ with integrity, we must defend our weaknesses and fight the Enemy. While this is nothing new, the prevalence of social media and the internet have created a new battlefield for the old war against temptation and sin.

The Bible is more than clear that we deceive ourselves if we think we can flirt, literally, with lust and not contribute to our souls’ destruction. And smartphones, tablets, and laptops make such flirting and lusting easier than ever. All the more reason to be deliberate about how we use technology. Scripture is clear that we must avoid any hint, any flirtation, anything opening up an opportunity to sin.

Oddly, in our culture today, many people want to do just the opposite, seeing how close they can get to trouble without crossing the line. But God’s Word teaches us the opposite. Stay as far away from temptation as possible.

I love the way David phrased it in Psalm 16:6 when he said, “The boundary lines have fallen for me in pleasant places.” In other words, there are some fences or boundaries God has put in place, and I’m very thankful they are there. The fences keep the good stuff in and the bad stuff out.

The boundaries are there not to confine you but to protect you.
