“They triumphed over him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony.” (Rev. 12:11)

In the Old Testament, to receive forgiveness for sins, people offered animals (often a lamb) to God as a sacrifice. The shedding of this precious blood—the source of life—was what would cleanse them of their sin.

Then Jesus presented himself as the ultimate Lamb of God, a final sacrifice for the forgiveness of our sins. His blood alone had the power to forgive us once and for all. Because he chose to shed his blood for us, we have overcome the sin that held us hostage.

The other factor contributing to our ability to triumph according to this verse is our testimony. This refers to our stories, but specifically how we’ve encountered Jesus firsthand, personally. If you witness something happening, and you’re called in to court as a witness to testify—or to give your testimony about what happened—then you’re an eyewitness to events establishing the truth for all the people who weren’t there. The judge has you swear that you’ll tell the whole truth about everything you saw. And your testimony isn’t about you either. It’s about events that you happened to be present for, to see, to experience, to observe.

So your testimony is your story with Christ. Who were you before you gave your life to him? Who are you now because of Christ? The transformation of your life by his power is your story, the words of your testimony. When was the last time you shared your testimony with someone?
