Daily Power #133

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. (Gal. 6:10)

Jesus said people would know that we’re his followers by the love we show to others. I’m convinced this is especially true for how we as believers treat one another. Most people might not expect us to show love and kindness to our enemies. But they would likely be surprised or even disappointed if we didn’t treat our brothers and sisters in Christ with respect and compassion. While we’re called to be like Christ to all people, if we fail to do it with those who share our faith, then we’ve truly failed indeed.

Through our compassion toward one another, we can change the way nonbelievers understand what it means to follow Jesus. Too often the world sees people who claim to be Christians arguing, fighting, judging, condemning, and tearing down people within their own church, denomination, or religion. God must be especially grieved when our behavior creates an offensive and inaccurate impression of what it means to know him.

Today you have a chance to influence how others understand and define the Christian faith. So many people are tired of hearing about the love of Jesus. They don’t want to hear about it. They want to see it. Your actions speak louder than you may realize. Let the people around you see the love of Jesus in all that you do.

Dear God, forgive me for those times when I have criticized or torn down other people, especially my brothers and sisters within your family. I want to show everyone your love, grace, and kindness in all that I do.
