Daily Power #102

Daily Power #102

LORD, be gracious to us; we long for you. Be our strength every morning, our salvation in time of distress. (Isa. 33:2)

As with anything in our lives, whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, the things that we feed grow, and the things that we starve shrink. It takes practice and consistency to build a strong prayer life. The kind of faithful, fervent prayer life we long for won’t happen in a week. Just like working out in the weight room builds muscle, time spent in the prayer closet builds consistency. We can’t become a super prayer warrior without putting in our time and attention on a regular basis.

And this is easier said than done. Sometimes we don’t feel like praying and have to push through painful disappointments and grieve private losses, expressing our emotions but not allowing them to control us. After all, God can handle all our feelings, no matter how angry, volatile, or hurt we may feel.

As the source of our strength, God loves for us to spend time with him and to tell him everything that’s on our minds and in our hearts. He wants to renew our spiritual strength so we can get through the day with peace, purpose, and passion for all he’s doing in our lives.

When we’re committed to loving and seeking him, then building our prayer life is a natural (and supernatural) way to strengthen the muscles of our heart.
