For Hope beyond the Darkness

THE COMMON EVENING PRIMROSE is a beautiful yellow flower that blooms only at night. Through this interesting and ironic twist of nature, God draws our attention to a spiritual lesson: There is no circumstance so dim—and no darkness so profound—that God can’t create beauty in the midst of darkness.

In Genesis 1:1-2, the Bible teaches, “In the beginning . . . the earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters.” And similarly, there will be times when the darkness of life attempts to cover our hope. But just as God designed the evening primrose to sprout at night, he created you to blossom beyond the darkness of your sorrows.

Truly remarkable, the evening primrose is more than a pretty flower. It’s a medicinal giant that’s used to treat a variety of ailments. Though sprung in the dark, it heals, soothes, and rejuvenates. So as you pray through the difficult seasons of your life, let the Lord sustain your hope. He will open your eyes to the good that’s blooming.

STRENGTH IN THE WORD

I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace.

I will plant my hope in the Lord.

PRAYERFUL THOUGHTS

Dear Lord,

It would be great if growth sprouted solely from good times. But I know that’s not how this life works. Instead, there’s a time and divine purpose for everything: “A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance” (Ecclesiastes 3:4). So I pray for everlasting hope—hope that never wanes. Please show me the beauty that’s blooming beyond the night.
