For An Attitude Adjustment

For an Attitude Adjustment

AS THE STORY GOES, while former U.S. President Bill Clinton was in Japan, the Japanese prime minister intended to ask him, “How are you?” But instead he accidentally asked, “Who are you?” In response, President Clinton quipped, “I’m Mrs. Clinton’s husband.”

Each day, the world asks us the same question. On good days, we’re often Ms. Joyful. However, on bad days, we tend to become Ms. Prickly.

The Bible teaches that our attitudes are like uniforms. They inadvertently disclose who we are. Police officers’ attire tells the world they have authority, and doctors’ coats announce they’ve earned professional respect. So what do our attitudes reveal about us?

If you’re anything like me, praying for a more godly temperament is a daily task. (Crazy drivers alone require that I pray without ceasing.) But the Bible teaches that an attitude adjustment must be taken seriously. It’s a “must pray” for every believer. Colossians 3:14 instructs, “Dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered” (MSG).

STRENGTH IN THE WORD

Do everything readily and cheerfully.

Philippians 2:14, MSG

TODAY I DECLARE

My attitude will represent Christ.

PRAYERFUL THOUGHTS

Dear Lord,

Please forgive me for the many times when I’ve had a bad attitude.

I’m ashamed to say that my “spiritual attire” doesn’t always represent you.

I ask that you temper my ways and help me radiate joy. Please give me an attitude adjustment.

In Jesus’ name, amen.

KEEPSAKE
