For Adding Praise

WHEN I CONSIDER THE CONCEPT of praising people, good things don’t always come to mind—I think of the terms sycophants, flatterers, fawners, and the like. But genuine praise has the power to touch hearts and bolster prayers.

People naturally gravitate toward those who uplift them. God himself shows up when we praise his name. Psalm 100:4 invites, “Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name.” Psalm 22:3 adds that God inhabits the praises of his people.

If you’ve been praying about a challenging family member or friend, try backing your prayers with genuine praise. While in prayer, ask the Lord to help you compile a list of that person’s praiseworthy attributes and accomplishments. And be sure to include items that you typically don’t mention. When your praise is consistent and genuine, the seeds of your prayers will take deeper roots.

A wise woman once said, “A word of praise can touch a loved one’s heart and yield an answer to a stubborn prayer.”
