consideration - Keep Me in Mind

[He] is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think. Ephesians 3:20

Long before I (David) ever saw my need, God had already taken it into consideration. Long before I acknowledged my need for His Son, He had provided Him as my substitute. Long before I knew I needed forgiveness for my sins, the Lord had made a way for that forgiveness to become reality. Before I had even drawn breath, my heavenly Father had taken me into account in His plans for eternity. Even now, He is attentive to my every need.

Genuine consideration is just like that. Genuine consideration considers another’s needs and lovingly responds—even without being asked in advance. It considers another’s past and responds with acceptance. It gives sensitive attention to the present and makes provision for the future. Taking into account another’s needs or point of view—that’s what God’s love is all about.

Our Scripture passage expands on the truth of God’s extravagant care for us and on the fact that He took thought of us before we even knew we had need. No one can even dream of the goodness He has in mind, the care He has in store.

Just contemplating such love can prompt “freely giving” to those around us (Matthew 10:8), beginning with our spouse. Extravagant care in marriage is an attractive possibility, one that my wife and I both enjoy.

It means a lot to me when Teresa takes note of an extra-busy week and fills it with special and tender touches of love such as a favorite meal after a long day, pampering me in my easy chair at home, or a comfortable embrace at bedtime. When she does that, I know she has considered me, and that feels great!
