Harmony Based On Knowing Another

peace - Harmony Based on Knowing Another

And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

For too many years David and I lived with conflict and emotional discord. After we gave our lives to Christ we earnestly prayed that the Prince of Peace would rule and reign in our household. We wanted our marriage and our family to reflect the beauty of His name.

Gradually the Lord began to show us that to have a home of peace means that each of us must prioritize our relationship with God, then give priority to our spouse and family. As David began to prioritize family and marriage over career, many of our conflicts subsided. As I began to prioritize David over ministry, many more of our conflicts ceased. We began to see signs of peace in our home.

Thank You, Father, for sending the Prince of Peace.

To have a marriage that is marked with peace, David and I had to develop a commitment to loving one another in spite of our differences. We had to see one another with the “grace-filled” eyes of our Savior. To have peace, we had to look beyond one another’s faults. As David began to see past my faults and love me rather than try to preach at me, the peace of Christ filled our home. As I began to look beyond David’s faults and see his need for respect and honor in our home, the Prince of Peace was able to reign.

Finally, to have a home filled with peace we had to face the inevitable conflicts in marriage. The Prince of Peace showed us that to have a home that is free from discord, David and I would have to share the truth with one another in a loving way. We committed to resolve our conflicts—but with words that were gentle, words that were conducive to an atmosphere of peace.

How might you be an ambassador of the Prince of Peace today? How might you bring more tranquillity and peace to your home?
