David’s spiritual gift is teaching. He loves to study, prepare, write, and then teach what God has shown him. He especially likes to teach at home.

When the kids were young, David tried to “talk” to them about issues in their lives that needed correction. Instead of being concise, he “taught” them. Rather than a clear yes or no, he gave three points, each of them with considerable explanation. Sometimes that was helpful to our children, but sometimes it brought on memorable moments of humor in our family.

One day in one of our family times, the kids asked David a simple question that required a simple answer. When David started into a long answer, one of the kids burst out, “Oh no! Get out your pad and pencil. Dad’s gonna teach!” We all laughed together that day, and our child’s words that day became a humorous—and oft-repeated—way for the kids to remind Dad that they needed an answer and not a lesson.

We’ve laughed often at what our children said that day, but our family and friends all admire and appreciate David’s ability to impart God’s Word. My husband’s ability to teach has been a great comfort to me. I’ve known I could always turn to him to find out where to go for answers in God’s Word. We’ve enjoyed wonderful times together seeking God’s direction by exploring a wide range of topics.

I can tell you from personal experience that it is a great blessing to have a spouse who is willing to take the time to teach from the Word of God. This has been a blessing to me and to our children over the years.
